Books Design
No Print Book
Client: Self-Project
Description
Chinese usually use the trace and copy method to picking up the stroke and the structure of the Chinese character. Normally, Chinese character practice book are printed on paper. It only gives learner a visual way to learn character. So I design these books which are give learner tactile and visual way to learn Chinese character not only for ordinary people but also for blind people. Instead of printing, I hollowed out the characters in these books. On the one hand, People can touch character directly by hand. It is an easy way to help people recognize the stroke and the structure of character. On the other hand, no print is more environmentally friendly.

The most important about non-print book designing is the tactile response that people get from them. So I choose two types of paper. 150g glossy paper is used inside the book. Its silky feel adds a unique tactile sensation that will help people enjoy touching. This kind of paper is durable. One paper under is necessary for touching the hollowed character. That is the reason why there are two pages for each character. I design the hollowed character on first page and small line character on the second paper. The line character is so small that it will not influence the next character. People can touch the outline of character on the first page and touch the structure of character on the second page. Combining two pages together, people can touch character more exactly and identify it easily.
200g blue paper is used for the book cover. The holes on the cover are the Braille. They are the book name” study Chinese character”.. Blind people can recognize the title by touching the Braille. These books use line binding .The white lines go through the holes to form two Chinese characters”学习”. People can see the book name ”study Chinese character” clearly.

“Chinese Brush Dual Use Packaging” is a recyclable green packaging product without printing or glue. The brush packaging box is made by folding a 100% recycled paper. After you take out the brush from the packaging box, according to the above diagram, you can assemble it into a sturdy and beautiful brush holder (without using any glue) through simple steps, which saves the money of buying a pen holder and reduces the waste of the packaging box.
