The 2025 C-IDEA Association Annual Conference was successfully held from October 20 to 22 at the HTK Academy in Hamburg and the MIAMI AD SCHOOL (Europe) in Berlin, Germany. This year’s conference focused on in-depth discussions about the future development of design education, featuring speeches and contributions from experts and scholars from multiple countries including Australia, China, Germany, Georgia, Israel, Japan, Macedonia, Mexico, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, Hungary, and the United States. The conference was presided over by Laura Burchert and Daniel Meier.
The keynote speeches featured 11 guests from eight countries across Asia, Europe, America, and Africa, who delivered a series of outstanding forward-looking presentations. These addresses covered breakthroughs in specialized fields such as typography design and material research, while also engaging with contemporary issues like artificial intelligence, cultural heritage, and the climate crisis, showcasing cutting-edge insights and innovative practices in global design education.
The keynote sessions were hosted by Daniel Meier and Laura Burchert, faculty members of Hamburg’s HTK Academy. Professor Dogan Arslan from Design and Architecture Faculty, Istanbul Medeniyet University, Turkey, explored political humor in the digital age with his presentation “AI Satire.” Professor Simon Peter Bence from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Hungary, presented “Font Interaction,” offering dual perspectives on artistic intuition and systematic creation. Professor Lv Ping from Guilin University of Electronic Technology, China, shared research on digital experience design for cultural heritage titled “Vision & Meaning,” while Professor Takashi Matsuda from Shizuoka University of Science and Technology, Japan, focused on fundamental theoretical research in design.
Professor David Torrent from BAU Design College of Barcelona, Spain guided the audience “Towards Personal Design Practice”, while German Creative Director Raban Ruddigkeit revealed “Hybrid State – How Creativity Truly Happens”. Karina Michaelis from North Hessia University of Applied Sciences, Germany explored material investigation in design education. Vera Sergeew-Arndt from HTK Academy in Germany examined the visual translation of sensations, Lecturer Carolin Rauen-Freie Schule für Gestaltung in Hamburg specialized in portfolio design methodology, and Greta Zuchold analyzed the relationship between gender, society and competitive gaming. Professor Allon Rascour (Israel/Germany) from the Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED), University of Nsukka, Nigeria, elaborating on the core power of education, design, entrepreneurship and innovation in sustainable development.

MIAMI AD School (Europe) in Berlin
The Berlin segment of this annual conference employed diverse formats including the “AI and Education” themed roundtable forum, a Berlin AI-themed party, and cultural visits to the IDZ (International Design Center) Berlin. These activities explored how artificial intelligence technology is reshaping teaching models, optimizing learning experiences, promoting educational equity and innovation, and envisioning future trends in intelligent education. The meeting was presided over by Raban Ruddigkeit.
Professor Do Gyun Kim from Purdue University, USA, presented “Flowing Memories,” guiding the audience to connect history and future through design. Professor Lin Chen from Beijing Gengdan Institute, Beijing University of Technology, China, demonstrated the innovative integration of Beijing’s Central Axis cultural genes with exhibition technology in “Modern Translation of Ancient Capital Axis Wisdom.” Professor He Xizhong from Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, China, explored new dimensions in graphic design through “Visual Possibilities in Printing Malfunctions.”
Professor Laze Tripkov from International Balkan University, Skopje, North Macedonia, focused on the challenges of the virtual reality era, presenting breakthrough explorations in “Virtual Posters.” Professor Hyungjoo Kim from Purdue University, USA, discussed “Design and Educational Practices for Promoting Social Well-being” from a social responsibility perspective. These presentations reflected both the technological forefront of the design discipline and its humanistic value in driving social progress.
On the cutting-edge platform of the AI_Berlin Center, participants gained firsthand experience of the deep integration between artificial intelligence and design innovation, while the cultural excursion to Berlin’s International Design Center (IDZ) allowed global scholars to personally feel the city’s vibrant creative ecosystem.
